Once upon a time, in the 1970s, there were only two medical colleges in the Sindh province of Pakistan – one in Karachi and one in Jamshoro. But a brilliant leader named Mr Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, who was from Larkana, knew that more places needed medical colleges. So, he decided to make one in Larkana too. That's how Chandka Medical College was born on April 20, 1973. Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU) has a big dream – they want to be the best university in Pakistan!

During that time, the Prime Minister, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, heard a special request. The people wanted Chandka Medical College to become a real university. Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto loved this idea and supported it with all her heart. The dream came true on April 12, 2008, when the Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, announced that the college would become an entire university. This was a big moment for the college and the people of Larkana. Everyone was excited because now they would have a particular medical university. SMBBMU's story is about giving good education, teaching people about health, and improving the community.
